September Book of the Month Discussion | #1

Marked by P.C. and Kristen Cast, first in the House of Night series. Please discuss it here :)
Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres not only exist but are also tolerated by humans. Those whom the creatures "mark" as special enter the House of Night school where they will either become vampyres themselves, or, if their body rejects the change, die. To Zoey, being marked is truly a blessing, though she's scared at first. She has never fit into the human world and has always felt she is destined for something else. Her grandmother, a descendant of the Cherokee, has always supported her emotionally, and it is she who takes the girl to her new school. But even there the teen stands apart from the others. Her mark from the Goddess Nyx is a special one, showing that her powers are very strong for one so young. At the House of Night, Zoey finds true friendship, loyalty, and romance as well as mistrust and deception. She realizes that all is not right in the vampyre world and that the problems she thought she left behind exist there as well. |

Marked is terrific!! | #2
|
Marked is one of the best books I have read in a while. Cast's vampires are beautiful, strong, and are Changed gradually, which makes all the
sense in the world to me. I wasn't sure that I cared for the tattoos they receive automatically, but the more I read about them, and after seeing the
cover of Untamed, the fourth in the series, I really like them! I might even consider a similar tattoo if there was a way to do it sans needle. I
like that they attend a school that teaches them not only things like vampire history, but fencing, equestrian studies, drama, and other cool classes. I think
the only thing I don't care about is that there is a chance they the Change will not take and they will die.
Because of this series, PC Cast has become one of my favorite authors, and I have recently bought 3 books in another of her series. |

Camara wrote:I feel the same way. PC Cast has become one of my favorite authors because of this series. I am going to get more of her books from the library soon. I also love the way she portrays the vampires. They are so different than any other vampires Ive ever read about. I love their tattoos and the way that they just appear. And your right it is sad that not everyone will make it through the change. I wish that my school had taught those subjects too. How cool would it have been to learn fencing in gym class instead of basketball haha. And to take care of horses, I would have been in heaven. I also loved how they brought magic into it and that it is such a big part of the books. overall one of my favorite series so far.

Agreed, RetardOBot1, about the cool classes. I never cared for gym class, but if I could have learned about horses or done some fencing, I
would have been a BIG fan.
I have read the first three books in Cast's Goddess Summoning series, and WOW! I love her even more now. They are geared to adults, and there are some really nice sex scenes. I have ordered the last few in the series and can't wait to get them. Plus, she has more series besides that. As an aside, I looked for a place to post this next question, but I didn't find a section of the forum for technical questions. I can not seem to get my avatar or signature to appear on these posts, even though they show up on my profile section. What am I not doing? I just posted, and my name showed up as "whatever", and I have no idea how it got there. Also my avatar showed up and the signature. I tried to go
back and change the post, but after I edited it, I didn't see a choice to repost. I'm in several different forums, but I find this one very confusing.

Camara wrote:Hello Camara! I'm so sorry about the trouble you're having on this board. I sent your name to the support forum to look into why your avatar was not showing. I don't know if they fixed it or it just decided to work. As for your name, that is soo strange. Never had that to happen. Well, this is a paranormal board. ha ha ha. If you have problems again with anything, just go to "Announcements and Help Forum." I will find it. Thanks for hanging with us even though Yuku boards are a problem sometimes. Just let me or bot know if you need help with anything. lizzbitt |

Tomorrow, the 23rd, book #4, Untamed, comes out. I can hardly wait. This is one of the best series I have read. They must be popular, since she has
signed to do 9 books in total, 3 of which will be a sort of companion group. I'm into the 4th book of her Goddess Summoning series, and I can say
that she is definitely one of my very favorite authors.

I know I cant wait. I still haven't read the Goddess books yet Ive been in a mood where I don't want to read for some reason. I haven't even
finished Mists of Avalon and its due back to the library in 2 days. I'll see if I can get them though. I'll check them out.

RetardOBot1 wrote: Trust me when I tell you that you'll like them. They are geared more toward adults than kids, if that matters (some great sex scenes included), and I bought the mass-market paperback edition, so they weren't too expensive, and since I knew that I would want to reread them at some point. Have you checked out the new and improved House of Night website? It is soooooo cool. Go to the Yearbook and check out the photos of some of the characters from the books.
